The Biblical charcter of David has been the inspiration for many works of art throughout history. The young David, as Goliath's opponent, has been captured in marble by such artists as Verrocchio, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Bernini. While all of these sculptures are similar in some aspects, the ones by Michelangelo and Bernini portray significant differences. Michelangelo's David was sculpted during the Renaissance and is typical for that period.
