BACP Code of Ethics

Outline of the Paper

The main purpose of this essay is to use the BACP code of ethics to understand the different ethical situations. In this essay I am choosing the situation “Your client has told you in a session that they regularly take class C drugs and are now considering becoming a dealer”. I am using the BACP codes for pastor because these codes give a bried detail as how to deal with the ethical dilemmas associated with the use of drug.

Discussion

Usage of Class C drugs is considered to be a crime. This case study shows that my client is regularly taking the Class C drugs and now he is considering becoming a dealer of the drug. This is considered to be a crime(Bentley, 2006). There are so many ethical codes related to this crime in BACP.

BACP is the largest professional organization for counselling and psychotherapy in the UK, is a company limited by guarantee 2175320 in England and Wales, and a registered charity, 298361.

The purpose of this Code is to outline the ethical principles involved in the use of Counselling Skills(Freedman, 2003).

The attached practice guidelines which relate to this Code (Section D) are primarily intended for those who are trained in the use of Counselling Skills within another role(BACP 2003). For those working within an explicitly contracted counselling relationship, the Code of Ethics and Practice for Counsellors applies.

The user of Counselling Skills will hereafter be known as 'the practitioner' and the recipient of Counselling Skills will be known as 'the client(Penslar, 2005)'.

Counselling Skills Users, their organisations, their managers and their clients should have access to this Code.

All BACP members abide by its Equal Opportunities Policy Statement. The full statement can be found at the end of this Code.

Value

The practitioner's values are those of integrity, impartiality and respect for the client. The practitioner works in a non-exploitative way(Sullivan, 2008). In practicing these values given in the Bible, Pastors will also seek to follow best practice from the modern specialist disciplines. They will give careful thought to whether their pastoral work is centred on the Person they are helping, or on their faith(BACP 2003).

1.1 The basic goal of pastoral care is to help Persons live life in all its fullness. (John 10:10) in the strength of, and according to, the example of Christ

1.2 The values of pastoral care are the qualities commended by the Apostles in the New Testament scriptures. These are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, fidelity, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-3) together with compassion, humility, tolerance, forgiveness and thankfulness to God (Colossians 3: 12-17). They are to be practised with an emphasis more on listening than speaking (James 1:19-27).

1.3 In practising these values given in the Bible. Pastors will also seek to follow best practice from the modern specialist disciplines(Ridley, 2008). They will give careful thought to whether their pastoral work is centred on the Person they are helping, or on their ...
