Barbara Jordan- Leadership Analysis

Introduction

Leadership is the most influential and the responsible task that any leader faces in his professional career. The good qualities of the leader are highly significant in order to motivate and unite the employees and the organization and take them in one direction. Therefore, the following research paper is analyzing one of the great leaders of her times, Barbara Charline Jordan. The research paper will include the personal life of Barbara, her leadership style, the extra ordinary qualities she possessed, the challenges she had faced and the solutions to them.

Life Profile of Barbara Jordan

Barbara Jordan was born on February 21, 1936, in Houston and died of pneumonia and complications of leukemia on January 17 1996 in Austin. She was the daughter of Benjamin M. (a clergyman and warehouse clerk) and Arlyne (a housewife; maiden name, Patten) Jordan. She has acquired the education from Texas Southern University in 1956. She has then gone to Boston University for her LL.B. in 1959. After completing her studies, she has come in Politics and was got associated with the Democrat Religion Baptist.

. She has done many achievements in her life such as she has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, along with many other medals. She was the only African American lady was has been buried in the Texas State Ceremony after her death.

Career of Barbara Jordan

As being the best and the shining student during her school days, she has inclined more towards politics and finally, she was admitted to the Bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State Bar of Texas, both in 1959. The journey for the success continued and she joined the District of Columbia Bar in 1979. She had engaged in practice of law in Houston during the years 1959-66. She was also the administrative assistant to county judge in Harris County in 1964-66. The success and the achievements kept continuing. Some of the major achievements were:

Steering and policy committee of House Democratic Caucus; Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin, professor in 1979-82

Lyndon B. Johnson Centennial Professor of National Policy, beginning in 1982
