Have you ever been persuaded to buy a product by an advertisement? All of us have been affected by some of it whether it is of a good quality or not because we see it almost every day. An advertisement is an announcement in a newspaper, magazine, on television, or on a poster about something such as a product, event, or job. An effective ad has a power to restrict a customer to purchase that product but there is no guarantee that the product which is being purchased will be according to the customer's expectations. Therefore when you advertise something, you show the advantages of that product, but you don't show the disadvantages of that product. As a result, advertisements have a lot of hidden meanings more than what is shown in the pictures or videos and more than what is seemed at the first sight. Therefore, I picked up an advertisement for the rhetorical reading that it is called “Beckham Signature” and I plan to clarify about its description, rhetorical appeals, rhetorical gaze and cultural norms.

First of all, explaining the advertisement is one of the most important things in the advertisement because it gives you an idea of what the product is. “Beckham Signature” has simply cologne for men “black colored” and another perfume for women “pink colored”. It tells you that you get a Black Hand bag for free when you buy the cologne and a black shiny purse when you buy the perfume. This advertisement also has a picture of the famous England soccer player David Beckham who plays currently for the national team and AC Milan club with a girl. Beckham is formally dressed up and he is having his hair shaved in this advertisement. His wife Victoria is having an attractive make up and having small earrings of diamond. They are having a dark background picture and the black color comprises 70% of the picture in the advertisement and the rest of it is almost white or in light colors. “DVB” is the logo for this advertisement which means David, Victoria and Beckham.
