Joshua

Genre

The genre of Joshua is narrative history.

Introduction

The book of Joshua describes the conquest of the Promised Land as the result of joint action of all Israel. Campaigns are happening one after another, in the midst of the greatest wonders. Joshua, the only chief of all tribes, encouraged the people and leads to victory. The passage of the Israelites caused the terror of their enemies; the Canaanites are devoted to total destruction.

Theme

The big issue is the Lord's faithfulness in fulfilling its promises (chap. 21: 43-45), under the table leadership of Joshua, the one chosen by God to fulfill God's purpose.

The book of Joshua is an important part of the AT, and should not be considered separately from the Pentateuch, which is the continuation and conclusion. In a way, this book relates to the five books of Moses and the Book of Acts relates to the four Gospels.

If Psalms helps us turn our eyes to the sky, Proverbs helps us to set foot on the floor. But the only way to establish stably feet on the ground is trusting in God (Proverbs 22:19, "For your trust is in the Lord "). Proverbs generalizations about the moral and that govern the spiritual world must be accepted by faith, since many individuals apparently opposite to the view they may designate.

The goal of the book is teaching us how to be happy, but how to be ...
