Introduction

Directed by Feng Xiaogang, Big shot's funeral is a Chinese comedy movie, staring Ge You, Rosamund Kwan and Donald Sutherland. This movie portrays the strength and richness of Chinese cimena. Chinese cinema is very much different from the contemporary cinema of the West. The movie delinates various aspects of chinese history, local culture and politics. The movie starts with the story of an American Director Rob Tyler, who is shooting in Beijing for a remake of the film, “The Last Emperor”. Tyler experienced a Chinese funeral of an elderly man and asked YoYo, that he wants to have a similar comedy funeral, for himself. The director falls into coma, soon afterwards, and now YoYo has to plan for his funeral. He, with his business acquaintance attracted a large number of business sponsors for the funeral of the American director (Erik, 2008). This represents a true admiration towards Chinese cultural life and contemporary Chinese cinema.
