Pathogen

Pathogens are the micro-organisms that contribute to the development and prevalence of disease. This characteristic of the micro-organisms is rooted in the fact that pathogens are essentially present in the form of bacteria that eventually do little more than damage cells. Pathogens can be extremely harmful to human health and it is because of the same reason that the development and implementation of medical treatments designed to fight pathogens is always on full throttle. Streptococcus and Staphylococcus are two ideal examples of pathogenic bacteria.

Antibodies can eliminate pathogens by essentially helping to neutralize the toxins created in the process that allows pathogens to adversely impact health and wellness. The vaccination process calls for the introduction of positive pathogens into the human body. It is perhaps of the same reason that pharmaceuticals are choosing to give an increasing degree of attention to the role and relevance of pathogens. This increasing attention is helping pharmaceutical companies improve upon the processes that assist them in creating drugs for anti-bacterial purposes (Geffers, 2011).

It is imperative to highlight at this point that viruses are essentially much smaller than bacteria. Viruses are present in the form of genetic material that is fragmented in nature and is protected inside a protein covering that allows the virus to remain intact until induction into a host system. Viruses have the ability to reproduce once they have been introduced into the host environment. The cell in which the virus is present tends to experience damage in this process. The eventual outcome of this repeated multiplication is that the quantity of virus exceeds the capacity of the cell; causing the host cell to burst and allowing the expanded virus to move into the bloodstream to other parts of the body (Glaser, 2004). The dissuades that take origin from viruses include AIDS, chicken pox, colds, influenza - flu, measles, mumps and rubella amongst many others. An increase in the number of white blood cells allows the body to ingest the pathogens responsible for the sustenance of the virus in the body and to destroy them in the process of doing so. In addition, an increasing in the number of white blood cells in the face of an increasing virus also allows the body to produce anti-bodies and anti-toxins that destroy the pathogens and enable the neutralization of the toxins that are released by the pathogens in the process.
