Blood Minerals

Introduction

The article published on the Telegraph Pressure on mobile phone makers to stop using Congolese 'blood minerals highlights about the recent amendments in the Dodd Frank financial services bill. The amendments to the clauses can cause a significant impact to the cell phone industry. However, there is a possibility that this amendment can help bring peace to the Democratic Republic of Congo where war between Congolese armed forces and rebel-armed militia has brutalized the lives of many people living in the country. The most affected area in this region is Eastern Congo and that is the place, which is somehow the most connected with the global cellular industry. In this region of Congo are situated the minerals which global cell phone manufacturing companies use to manufacture their cell phones. These mineral are widely regarded as conflict or as blood minerals, because these are under the control of rebel forces of Congo. From the global sales of these minerals, rebel forces gather the money needed to buy weapons. These purchased weapons are used to fight against the Congolese army. Due to this long raged war, people of Congo have suffered greatly by far and if things do not change, they will continue to receive brutal treatments from both ends. The referral of the term blood money is also in this regard, as all of the purchases of the cell phones globally are contributing to the war that is causing a massacre that makes humanity shameful. The purchasers of these minerals are global companies with high repute all over the world. However, with a trade link with rebel groups and Congolese army these all companies are staining their hands with the blood of all the victims of this brutal war. The minerals from conflict zones include gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten. These are found in all consumer electronic products. In eastern Congo, the armed groups earn hundreds of millions of dollars each year by the trade of these minerals. Government troops and militias are vying for control of mines and civilians are the victims of this struggle.

Discussion

In order to understand what the raw colonization of the Congo is, it is worth recalling that in fact we are dealing with international conflict, which also applies to neighboring countries, mainly Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and the Central African Republic. Every now and then, you hear about projects putting a piece of the Congo, Rwanda, which would create a Republic of volcanoes. Balkanization of the country opposes the Church loudly, indicating that the raw material has already colonized. For example, in 2002, Rwanda was the world's third largest exporter of diamonds. I do not have the raw materials and the export came from the plunder in Congo. Goma is one of the largest in Africa, which is considered as points of export of natural resources.

The minerals are then smuggled out of the Congo by Rwanda and to be treated making them difficult to trace and then sold to companies in consumer ...
