Micro-irrigation technologies are increasingly seen as a means of addressing the growing competition for scarce water resources. Appropriate low-cost drip systems have shown to have positive effects on yield, incomes, and food security. With the right institutional support, these systems can help poor farmers improve water productivity and incomes. According to research done by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), one-third of the world's population will face absolute water scarcity by the year 2025. (Batchelor 2010) Among the worst hit will be regions in Asia, the Middle-East and Sub-Saharan Africa, home to some of the largest concentrations of rural poverty in the world.

Global Government

Modern theories of relations between states seem to advocate polarized worlds, where nations are either headed toward inter-civilizational clashes or liberal-democratic uniformity. Similarly, theories of globalization posit either hyper globalization or more state-centric scenarios. Any integrated approach to policymaking in the globalized world requires due attention to the theoretical rationales for state formation. Such considerations are not frivolous; without addressing these motivations, states cannot profess to remain pertinent in a borderless world. (Berger 2009) Broadly, these can be delineated into the corresponding economic, political, militaristic, and socio-cultural aspects.

Unemployment

Technological change is responsible for higher than normal unemployment in the US and Canada Technological change often increases structural unemployment, for example: technological change might require workers to re-train. Increased automation may result in a decreased demand for labour.  It can also result in skill redundancy where the original workers do not have the technological skills necessary in the new types of occupations.  (Acemoglu, 2010) On the positive side, technological change can result in new products, new markets, or increased productivity.
