Introduction

Motivation is a crucial concept in the study of organizations. Its relationship with individual performance, satisfaction and organizational productivity has become the key topic of organizational behaviour. Motivation is a highly complex phenomenon it is not easy to define. For purposes of this, consider motivation as a process which begins, sustains and directs behaviour to achieve incentives that meets an important need at this time for the individual. To ensure the achievement of the goal of the group, the leader must play a key role to motivate the group. Motivation is not always physical or extrinsic (Kippenberger, 2002). But it may originate elsewhere, and it is only effective if it springs from the depths of the individual himself. Motivation refers to the image that the leader of the self and the group developed person. This paper aims to discuss the impact of different leadership styles that may have on motivation at Coca Cola by comparing the application of different motivational theories within the work place and usefulness of a those motivation theories for managers.

Impact of different leadership styles on motivation at Coca Cola

Leadership is the set of capabilities that an individual has to influence the minds of people or a group of people, making their teams work enthusiastically in achieving goals and objectives. It is also understood as the ability to take initiative, manage, hold, promote, encourage, motivate and evaluate a group or team. At Coca Cola the senior management of each department plays a role of leader for their employees (Kippenberger, 2002). Their focus is to have combinations of leadership style which could bring the overall changes in the performance of the team and increase their motivation level (Saner, 2005).

Coca Cola is one of the renowned brands in the world having a diversified workforce. The challenges are not limited to this giant organization as there are numerous issues faced by the leaders in the organization, ranging from culture to technological and political issues. Therefore the management at Coca Cola focuses on the mixture of different leadership styles in order to cope with the changes which occur in global business arena. The manager tries to understand the skills and qualities their workforce, than they assists them in adapting and changing their leadership styles (Kippenberger, 2002).

The important leadership style that is adopted by managers at Coca Cola is the participative style in which the subordinate leaders ask their opinion, information and recommendations, but it is they who make the final decision on what to do. The desire to create a team spirit encourages plans, so that their components have extraordinary motivation to get it going (Saner, 2005). Other than that, the delegating style is also popular at Coca Cola, in which subordinates who are experienced and mature, and are willing to create learning experience are encouraged in decision making process.
