Chapter 1: Methodology

1.1 Introduction

This study focuses on the methods and approaches of the research. The object of the research is to inspect that could customers of Panda Supermarket in Saudi Transfer from branded products to Panda's Products? This study discusses different methods that could be applied for conducting this research. A detailed description is also provided about the collection of the data and the methods that will be used to analyse it.

1.2 Research Methodology

The main research methods will be primary research undertaken in the form email-questionnaires and online questionnaires also discussion and secondary research will also be done in the form of research of existing literature on the subject (Creswell, 2007, Pp. 89-100). This dissertation will be completed by both primary and secondary research but our main focus will be on primary research as it helps to collect the first hand data. The primary research will include online surveys; where as the secondary data will be collected from relevant literature books and e-library. (Greene, 1997, Pp. 12-25)

In primary research, the questionnaire will be designed to achieve the aims of the dissertation. The goal is the development and distribution of a questionnaire to a sample of 200 people. The research will include interviews and questionnaires (e-mail and online). There will be people of different groups. Age, sex, occupation, ethnicity, etc. are going to be involved in the research and the viewpoints of different people belonging to different age groups.

1.3 Justification of the Chosen Methodology

In a closed questionnaire, the questions require the respondent a specific form of response and a limited number of choices. Closed questionnaires are used to obtain factual information; a judge agrees or disagrees with proposal, knowing the position of respondent on range of judgements, etc.

Benefits of closed ended questionnaires are that they are well formulated items that are questions and statements. In closed ended questionnaires there is uniformly defined response scale. In closed questionnaire controllability of the interview situation could be maintained. The data gathered through closed ended questionnaires could be easily handled in terms of calculability.
