Introduction

It's often recognized that the primary role of Nurses it to care for the health of their patients; however, the evolving nature of the profession has compelled nurses to undertake planning, organizing, directing and controlling financial resources, human and material with the intent to effectively fulfill the goals of the institution. The nurses should guide their activities from the knowledge that provides administrative sciences, economics and politics. The theories and principles of these disciplines are necessary for the administrative practice of nursing care. This paper discusses the service learning trip in nursing cultural seminar for the capstone project, as well as, sheds light on the cost analysis of the project.

Discussion

The management of nursing services becomes increasingly difficult under the speed of transformations, outdated technology, service delivery processes, and the institutional and managerial dimensions. Nursing management is a social process that involves the responsibility of the best use of resources to an end, i.e., manages to lead human beings to predetermined targets, with the nurses in any health facility or service responsible for the proper integration of human, material, economic and financial, and to achieve a goal of optimal care (Reising et al., 2008).

Philosophy of Nursing

The holistic philosophy of nursing delineates nursing practice as the provision of superior patient care through innovation, collegiality and leadership in a culturally sensitive environment. The goal of this vision is to provide compassionate care and recognize that every patient is unique and important. It emphasizes the advocacy and protection of patients through confidentiality, self expression and dignity. The philosophy also promotes on-going learning and professional growth and the collaboration of all the members of the health team to provide optimum care and patient outcomes.

The Art of Caring

Nursing as a whole, is deemed to be a profession of caring, one that is filled with compassion and overall general regard for human life and wellbeing. Nurses, unlike physicians, spend much of their time at the patient's bedside and deal with their clients at many levels during the course of their care. Their interactions with the clients are far more extensive than that of the physician caregiver. The physician acts as the diagnostician while the nurse acts as the deliverer of care. Nurses tend to be humanitarian by nature and often form bonds with their patients and their colleagues. The nurse educator forms a bond with his/her students. This bond is important because together, they will serve as a team with equal goals. Those goals are to deliver safe and compassionate care to their patients. Caring and compassion are not learned behaviors; however, a good mentor not only incorporates academic knowledge into her teaching model but encourages the delivery of care through empathy and compassion as well (Mansfield & Meyer 2007).
