Despite efforts to switch to clean energy, coal will be part of our future, at least in the coming decades. It's cheap, abundant and we know how to use it: in the short term, coal is the safest way to satisfy the appetite for electricity in the world today. But as the combustion of coal is a dirty business that pollutes the atmosphere with CO 2 and other compounds under investigation to find alternative systems.

The carbon dioxide (CO 2) is a greenhouse gas that occurs naturally in the atmosphere . Human activities like burning fossil fuels and other processes, significantly increasing its concentration in the atmosphere contributing to global warming.

The capture and storage of CO 2 (CAC) may limit atmospheric carbon emissions resulting from human activities. This technique involves capturing the CO 2 produced in power plants or industrial plants, and then stored for a long period of time, either in geological formations underground, in oceans or other materials. Not to be confused with carbon sequestration, which involves cutting the carbon in the atmosphere by natural processes of forest growth

One way to make coal a cleaner is through carbon capture and storage, or CCS for short English (Carbon Capture and Storage). Under this method, which can be applied in coal plants as in natural gas, CO 2 is captured before it escapes into the atmosphere, it becomes a liquid and injected deep under the ground.
