Overview Of The Selected Case

Sally's case is a case of schizophrenia in which the three major factors, the Biological, Psychological, And Social Factors come to play a strong role. Her grandparent had been reported to have strange habits and behavior, although never diagnosed there is a strong suspicion that he was schizophrenic. Before her birth her mother continued to smoke and also suffered a sever bout of fever. Although when young sally was intelligent and an average child yet the psychological factors started acting up triggering her towards a schizophrenic attack. Her parent's marriage was not stable, there were disputes. The parent had separated for 10 months when she was 2 years old. Her father was a traveling salesman and thus was absent from home for long periods of time. The mother was overprotective of Sally thus restricted her outings.

In school she was smart yet never performed to her full potential. After graduation she got into college. She could not take the stress of a new environment and started manifesting symptoms of schizophrenia, like talking to herself etc. One day she was found catatonic in her room exhibiting the condition “waxy flexibility” and also showed hebephrenic behavior.

After getting discharged from hospital, she got even more withdrawn; her father suffered a heart attack. Thus making the condition more sever. One night she was caught by the police walking in the pond in a park. She was transferred to a mental facility.

Biological, Psychological, And Social Factors

Although study is still ongoing, there is general affirmation that schizophrenia is not initiated by one lone component but rather by a blend of factors. Experts state that schizophrenia is initiated by the interaction of biological, psychological, and communal factors. This is called the bio-psycho-social form of schizophrenia(Sims  2002).

In case of sally it was a blend of all these factors.

Biological

Biological components mostly mention to genetics and are routinely are against to "environmental" factors(Tarrier Wykes Lewis 1998). Environmental components mention to everything that is not associated to genetics. This can variety from the natural environment in the womb throughout pregnancy to the communal dynamics of a individual, encompassing hectic life events, road pharmaceutical use, learning, virus exposure and much more. Sally's Mother proceeded to fumes when she was with child with sally. Her mother fumes two load a day. Furthermore her mother endured harshly from a bout of flu. In which she should have utilised hefty medication.

Genetic Factors

Twin, family and adoption investigations show that schizophrenia tends to run in families. The risk of evolving schizophrenia is about 10% if a first-degree relation (parent, male sibling or sister) has the disorder. By evaluation, the risk in the general community is about 1%. In equal twins, there is a 50% possibility that both twins will have schizophrenia. Even though this comprises an significant risk, this shows that other determinants exception from genetics play a function in the development of schizophrenia(Brown  Barraclough Inskip  2000).
