Introduction

The movie “A Beautiful Mind” is the story of the genius mathematician named John Forbes Nash who badly faces Psychological disorder called paranoid schizophrenia. In the starting of the movie, Nash is a mathematics graduate student at Princton University where he was famous for his brilliance. He is a haughty and awkward mathematics student, who used to spend most of his time in discovering a ground breaking mathematics equation. Half through the movie interval, we find that situations and places are only illusions within Nash's “beautiful” mind. Here we agree on that Nash is suffering from cruel illness that is none other schizophrenia.

Discussion

The movie A Beautiful Mind provides a quality lesson for every ordinary person to practice of self awareness. The film offers convincing visual medium to represent mental illness and stress within a person's intellect. The story portrays the symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia which had been compounded by the anxiety found by Nash, regarding the pain of his wife and friends due to his mental illness. He took medication to repress the symptoms but could not succeed. Schizophrenia is an illness that is characterized by a collapse of poor emotions and thought process. It is a disorder that split the mind. It is not a mental condition that relates to split personality rather talks about splitting the single reality into two different realities of the same mind. It causes three disorders; disturbed perceptions, disorganized thinking, and inappropriate actions and emotions (Myers, 2007, p678). The character Nash went through from severe hallucinations and delusions, which later diagnosed as symptoms schizophrenia. Schizophrenia has its subtypes and paranoid schizophrenia is obsessed with hallucinations or delusions that usually found in the cases of grandiosity or persecution (Myers, 2007).
