In this study, we will scrutnize a high profile case, directed by a probation officer (Joan). Due to its high profile status, this case has captured the attention of media and other public authorities. In order to mitigate the negative publicity arising from the case, the Collier County Probation Department is concerned about dealing with the case effectively and efficiently.

The Chief Probation officer has disallowed Joan to communicate with media and other public authorities regarding the high profile case. However, the media is constantly pressurizing Joan to have an interview. This is creating problems for Joan as she remains indecisive about how to handle the situation. In this study, we will examine the following questions:What should Joan's response to the reporter be other than hanging up or telling him to call back? In order to answer this question, we will conduct an indepth analysis as to how Joan should respond to such situation.

With reference to disseminating confidential information with media, the police department should implant appropriate policies and regulations. The policies should direct the police regarding the informtion disclosure. Generally, the highest ranked person in the police department i.e. Police Chief or his personal assistant, should be allowed to communicate with the media personnels (Dubber, 2007). The policies and regualtions should guide the police that only designated officials are allowed to interact with media.
