Introduction

The issues regarding youth violence and its prevention have acknowledged increasing attention in recent years. In the United States, violence incidents among young people indicated massive increases between the nineteen-sixties and nineteen-nineties, with some of the crime statistics in this area increasing by as much as 300%. Violence is seen as a violation of fundamental human rights, with respect to the threat to the principles of freedom and equality (Rickert et. Al., 2004. pp. 1132-1139). This approach should also help in creating real opportunities for young people to improve their living conditions and develop their citizenship.
