Children Asthma in Iraq

What are the determinants of childhood asthma in Iraq?

Introduction

The study attempts to explain the core consequences that result in a complex multi factorial disease of Asthma which has allergic factors along with the interaction with non allergic triggers (Currie, 2008). These factors result in obstruction and inflammation of bronchus (Johnson, 2002, p154-175). This disease is a leading chronic disease which is mostly found among children, who live in industrial countries; however, this disease is even common in the children of developing countries.

As symptoms intensify or more symptoms present themselves, a person is having an attack. Being proactive will keep symptoms from worsening and becoming more severe (Oddy, 2004, p1531). Just because the child is showing no signs of asthma, that does not mean that the asthma is gone, the disease is ever present and the child could have an attack at any time. There have been many studies conducted before which has shown high rates of Asthma in children with the growing pollution in the environment (Waldron, 2007). The influence of different factors in this case can be partially or fully interpreted with the psychosomatic point of view. On the basis of clinical asthma, it can be divided into "external" (allergic) and "internal". Allergic asthma is often associated with the presence of a personal or family history of allergic diseases such as Rhinitis, Urticaria and Eczema (Oddy, 2004, p1531).

Many of the researchers have reached a consensus over asthma as being more prevalent in the western countries because of the high sanitation and the levels of hygiene, diet, lifestyle and the allergen exposures along with the immunization practices in these countries (WHO 2003). However, it has been presumed that various causes to this disease are shrouded in some mystery (Waldron 2007).
