Choice between Good and Evil

Introduction

Theologically, the evil is incredibly popular theme. The area known as theodicy deals directly with questions about how God can be fair and allow evil exists (Pizzato 368). Historically, philosophy and religion have a strange relationship, but the majority of modern philosophy in the field distinctly its own.

Good and evil in Paradise Lost

Unholy Trinity of Satan, sin and death is supposed to be the direct opposite of the Trinity of God, Son and Holy Spirit. Sin is half woman, half snake daughter / lover, Satan, and together they are the creators of death, which, incidentally, was the rape of Sin. Names of sin and death were chosen for obvious reasons, to represent sin and death (Stanley 361). It is surprising that Milton did not get more "creative" with the names of his characters, but it is very likely that he did it for a reason. He did not want the reader to think that these two characters represent - he wanted it to be blatantly obvious, because he wants man to recognize evil and the danger easily. Thus, in the sense of cliché names are also symbolic, because of their simplicity is what the author tries to express that, as soon as Adam and Eve ate the apple, they were able to determine the difference between good and evil is much more clearly what Milton says will be good.

It also seems to justify why God allowed evil exist, when he had the right to eradicate it. It's the old story of you may not be happiness without sadness, black with no white or no down. Everything should be opposite to evaluate the original stuff (Stanley 360). Therefore, Milton feels that God is justified; allowing the Unholy Trinity, to wreak havoc on their land, because it allows a person to distinguish between good and evil, and we hope to make the right choices and ultimately defeat evil. Referring to the resurrection, the author writes: "By faith not void of works: It is God, how to act

"Cancel your death, the death you are not dead, In sin for ever lost from life, this actCrush the head of Satan, crush his strength, Conquer sin and death, his two main arms; And fix far deeper in his head their stingsThan temporal death shall bruise the heel of Victor, Or of which he buys, and death, like a dream”

(Book XII: Lines 427-434)

Satan tries to pass through the gates of hell to find land and seduce mankind to the evil side, but the death of a stubborn, yet Satan tells him that three of them can rule the earth together. Death, of course, finds this idea intriguing, and allows Satan through. Death, after all, thrives on the souls of damned, and, in his opinion, the more the better. Emphasizing a person's ability to choose good over evil is the most significant way in which Milton is trying to justify the existence of Unholy Trinity.
