Introduction

Claude McKay was born in the belt of Sunnyvale accustomed in the top area of Clarendon, Jamaica. His parents were Thomas Francis and Ann Elizabeth Edward McKay. He anesthetized abroad in Chicago in 1948 and was interred in New York. In his antecedent days, Mckay was accomplished by his macho sibling, who was an educator, afterwards his parents died. In this thesis we will cover the study about Claude McKay and his work and how his poems and writings which are influenced by his life and emotions.

Claude Mckay worked as a wheel wright and a cabinet employee then as a constable in Jamaica at Spanish Town in 1911. When Mckay shifted to Harlem he opened a resturaunt with a friend. When it failed he worked numerous occupations from a butler to a janitor all the while, he was composing poetry. (Baye 2002)

The first verses to be released by Claude McKay were Songs of Jamaica, Constab Ballads, and spring in New Hampshire, and Harlem Shadows. During the twenties, McKay evolved a concern in Communism and traveled to Russia and France. This is where he contacted Sinclair Lewis. In 1934, he shifted back to the United States (Harlem). Around this time he completly lost faithin Communism and turned his vigilance to the educating of diverse religious and political managers in Harlem. He finally altered to Catholism. Mckay's outlook points and convictions set a pitch for the Harlm Renaissance and profited much esteem by junior very dark poets at the time encompassing one Langston Hughes. Claude Mckay was considered to be one of the most militant writers to appear from his time. (Blackburn 2001)

McKay started as a loving bard composing about the primitive delights of Jamaican life. McKay's exposure and observer to the atrocities being shown in the direction of African Americans in the United States gradually changed him from a loving to a radical. The attractiveness of his transformation was that rather than of resorting to aggression, he vented through his writings. McKay displays power to withstand and battle back in renowned verses for example “If We Must Die.” This verse was in writing throughout the times of the Chicago rush riots. It displayed how McKay and other ones would lash back at the bad activities projected contrary to them. They would deny passing away as animals but rather proceeding down as audacious, dignified men.
