1.Executive Summary

This report provides an analysis and evaluation on the importance of the awareness of the impact of climate change in the design and construction methods of building. The main purpose of the research is to provide recommendations to our client who has bought 5 Albany Road in order to refurbish the existing house and build a new housing estate next to it. The method of research has been by way of a literature review. The theories and analysis of different researchers have been presented in the report. Moreover, different initiatives taken by the UK government to promote greener homes are also elaborated. The report concludes that the construction industry must adopt the other energy efficient methods and sources in their construction process. The client is advised to use wave power renewable energy source in the construction process as it is more environmental friendly and less hazardous.

2. Introduction

This report has been commissioned by the client who requires advice on the selection of wave power as the source of energy to be used in the construction process. The key theme that underpins this report is the impact of climate change on the environment and the need for the construction industry to build more environmental friendly and green homes. The issue of Climate change has attracted a lot of attention in recent times. Moreover, the construction industry plays a vital role in protecting the environment from hazardous emissions and sustainability. The raw materials and process employed by the architects and engineers influence the global environment. Therefore, it is very important for them to be highly conscious of these issues, especially at the early stages of construction when there is still room for changes and modifications. Moreover, it is highly crucial for the construction industry to keep track of the climatic changes as they have the potential to impact the design and materials used in the process. This report presents the key facts and statistics in this regard and analyses the impact of climatic changes and its implication for the construction industry. Moreover, the role of government and the initiatives undertaken by the concerned authorities are also elaborated in the report.

3. Methodology

The method of research has been undertaken by a review, analysis and evaluation of key literature on the subject matter. This includes books such as Rough guide to sustainability, Environmental Science in Building by McMullan and Power from the Waves Ross and from the website of UK national statistics. Moreover, the case study undertaken in the research was of pivotal significance ...
