Executive Summary

In this study the main aim was on the clinical care system of UK. And this study entails the following structure and findings. Background to Research Argument section will describe what clinical indicators are and how they are being used in the UK. Literature Review Methods section presents a detailed account of how I systematically searched for the appropriate literature upon which my review is based on. This will include the qualitative search methods employed to access key literature.Analysis and Discussion section will demonstrate my understanding of the research that I have done on my chosen topic by answering the following questions:

How are clinical indicators that I have chosen calculated?

Is the method used to calculated fair to both the health care providers and to patients?

Is the quality of the underlying data sufficient to draw the conclusions inferred?

Do clinical indicators encourage 'gaming' - that is offering or withdrawing services not because of actual need, but in order to generate better clinical indicators.

How should clinical indicators be interpreted?

These questions cover the project topic. Having answered these questions this will discuss the positive and negative aspects of the use of clinical indicators in clinical care. Project Review and Conclusion section summarizes the review statement by concluding that the use of clinical indicators does improve the quality of clinical care as trusts want to be competitive and achieve good scores every year once the Department of Health reviews their performance. This review is important as it shows why clinical indicators are vital to patients and to healthcare professional. For the healthy population, indicators can also be important with regard to prevention, quality of life, and satisfaction with health care. For healthcare professionals it stimulates them to provide better care for the patients and sets them a challenge against other trusts.
