Introduction

Multiple researches have been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) used to treat depression or generalised anxiety disorder in recovery from contagious and mental diseases. This research analysis paper determines the CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) as a key part of recovery in individuals suffering from anxiety and depression (Kehle, 2008). Past studies have enabled the researchers to understand how CBT techniques create changes in people suffering from anxiety and depression (Behar et al., 2003).

The research paper selected for analysis in this paper is “The effectiveness of cognitive behavioural therapy for generalized anxiety disorder in a frontline service-setting”, written by Shannon M. Kehle. The research article published in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Volume 37 (3) in year 2008. The goal of CBT in the given case is to employ strategies to identify and monitor the cognitions that maintain problem behaviour (Kehle, 2008). It aims at replacing these maladaptive thoughts with more adaptive one that result in controlling the impact of anxiety and depression.

Many psychological treatments, such as meditation, relaxation techniques, biofeedback, and stress management can relieve the anxiety disorders. In addition, supportive counselling and family therapy or couples are beneficial for many people with an anxiety disorder. However, experts training session given to 29 participants in the study showed that the most effective treatment of anxiety disorders is cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) (Kehle, 2008).

Research Method for Evaluating the Effectiveness of CBT

Causal research design has been used in the research to investigate the relationship between Cognitive behavioural therapy and impact on the GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and depression. This article presents the findings of research in result analysis section. Results supported through inferential statistical tests, which define the existence or absence of relation between variables. Analysis of data was done through paired sample t-test statistical test to investigate the questions authenticity identified in the purpose section of the paper (Kehle, 2008). In the given research, the participants are adult patients with the problems of disorder and anxiety. There is a sample of 29 participants in total (Kehle, 2008). All of these participants completed PSWQ to evaluate the scope of their problems. The participants also completed Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), which determine the scope of depression and anxiety. Individual treatment of these participants lasted for 50 minutes. The participants treated during the clinical hours.

CBT is a problem-oriented treatment method that base on cognitive-behavioural aspects of anxiety disorders (Franklin et al., 2000). Generally, it consists of a series of 12 to 15 weekly sessions lasting one hour (Foa et al., 2005). During the first sessions, the person with an anxiety disorder tends to understand his problems with the help of the therapist.
