Communication at Work

Introduction

Communication is one of most significant factor that makes an organisation successful. Within an organisation there is a process of communication consisting set of messages that projects the feeling of organisational members and the organization itself. This organizational communication is headed for internal participants, which are directors, staff, employees and external participants, which are suppliers, users and visitors.

This paper intends to explore the communication process in a company where I have been working. Main focus of this study is to examine the organizational differences that may occur that affects the communication within my workplace. It is a large profile Information Technology software production company. The communication between the members of organisation is given a great importance. Upward communication is a process of transmission of any information on the performers to the head. This kind of communication most often takes the form of any reports. This way, a leader may collaborate with the team members to improve their performance and overall organisation's productivity.

However, the major dilemma in the company is diversified nature of employees who belong to different country, race and ethnicity. They all have their own set of cultural beliefs regarding communication that sometimes create a setback in the performance. In order to have deep rooted insight of this issue, 5 cultural dimensions of Hofstede model (1995) are discussed to categorize the diversification of employees. Although company believes in equality but gender partiality has become another source of communication conflicts that hinder organisational efficiency.

This reflective essay focuses on my experiences regarding the above mentioned dilemmas of the IT Company that adversely affects the communication.

It is the degree to which the people of a nation accept that power in institutions is distributed unequally. According to the findings of Hofstede Chinese employees and West Africa employees working in the IT Company had high scores on power distance, while USA and the Netherlands citizens had lower grades.

Individualism or collectivism

It is the degree to which nationals of a country prefer to act as individuals rather ...
