Communication Network

Introduction

In today's era, society has become very modern, and now is dependent on the communication networks with the intention to transmit the set of information and the ideas via symbols, text, signals or speech. Networks make use of numerous instruments for handing out the information, including television sets, radios and computers (Stallings, 1994). Society uses many different networks for communication purposes. Defining the network, it is a collection of two or more computers attached to one another with the intention to share the information and resources for instance, scanner, printer, extensions, telephones, etc, it can be used to exchange files through the share serves, it also allow the electronic communication (Black, 1989).

Communication Networks are relations and association developed along with a set in order to transfer the message from one location to the other location of the network, and moreover to other networks with the help of various links and nodes.

There are many types of communication networks that include computer network, internet network, the telephone network and many others, all are combined below:

Local Area Network (LAN)

Wide Area Network (WAN)

Public Switched Network

Telecommunication

Wireless Networks

Satellite Networks

The basic elements through which all the networks are connected those are the components are: terminals, telecommunications processors, telecommunications channels, computers, and telecommunications control software (Stamper, 1991).

Local Area Network

LAN is a set of network connection on a computer in the area in which the server is already present. Localized areas includes office, school etc. the system connects in a way that every computer is connected through a LAN via hub (Chorafas, 1989). Thus, every computer attached to it has the ability to communicate with the other computers those are attached to the same hub. It is the most cost effective network that could be used in the offices and schools. The data can be transferred very easily (Stamper, 1993).

Advantages of Local Area Network

There are many advantages of connected the computers through LAN, the advantages are as follows:

Networks become reliable, due to the reason that, if for instance in any circumstances that could occur like failure of one or two computer, in such case rest of the computers attached to the computer will not suffer at any cost, and will function as the way they are supposed to function.

New computers can be added to the network without interrupting the already attached computers most importantly working.

Data can be transmitted easily, transfer rate is very much high.

One of the most comfortable devices that can be also used are the external devices like magnetic disk, printers, scanners and CD Rom, by computers that are attached on the network.

It also allows increasing the place for storing the data, and reduces the requirement for hardware with every computer.

It serves as minimizing the cost for the hardware's as one device is being used by all the shared computers on the network, and eventually improves the productivity.

Regular computer hardware is made available for network workstations and servers, which make available animmensetransaction of design elasticity, easy maintenance and cost ...
