The aim of community policing programs is to bring citizen and police close together. The purpose of these programs is to prevent crime. Community policing programs also contribute towards prevention neighborhood programs. With community policing, it is possible to stop crimes before they happen. Community policing provides citizens with more control over the quality of life in the community. With the help of community policing, the police becomes an integral part of the neighborhood. It allows police to get an insight of the needs of residents and allows residents to generate greater trust in the police. In other words, in community policy the community joins the police department. In communities where community policing is practiced, the residents are likely to develop favorable opinions of the police.

Second, community policing should change the way police accomplishes its task (Nalla & Boke, 2011).

The traditional policing methods are different from those used in community policing. The goals of community policing are broader than traditional policing. Community policing contributes towards changing the goals of the community.

In traditional policing, it is assumed that the problems of the society are not included in the realm of the police department. The traditional police are reactive rather than being proactive. The traditional police department does not look outside resolving the incident that has happened. These aspects of traditional policing separate itself from the services of the city (Nalla & Boke, 2011).
