Compare and Contrast

Introduction

This paper intends to compare two different topics. The first topic which is contrasted is related to the literary community from 'the age of reason' to 'romanticism.' The basic underlying differences between 'the age of reason' and 'romanticism' will be discussed within this paper. The second topic is related to the comparison of my two favorite athletes naming Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about the significance of comparing and contrasting different things and situations.

The age of Reason and Romanticism

It is very interesting to explore the transitions from one major literary period to another. The periods I have selected to explore are 'the age of reason' and 'romanticism.' I have selected these two movements because I find the work of these two movements most interesting and appealing for me to explore more about them. The Romantic Movement was a reaction to the age of reason. The literature of Romantic Movement gives importance to heart as opposed to the importance to mind by the age of reason.

The age of reason refers to the 'enlightenment' era which symbolizes the attitude and ethnicity aspects of the eighteenth century. The basic characteristics of the literature of this era revolve around reasoning. This movement disrespects human sentiments like emotions and faith. However, the beginning and the ending periods of this era are not clearly explained in the literature. The age of reason was widespread over a large geographical domain including important areas like Germany, France, Portugal and even America. This era promotes a system which is structured on the basis of reason, freedom and democracy, thus all these values are reflected in the literary movement of the era (Everett, 1977).
