Robert Louis Stephenson uses two characters in the story, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, to show the constant warfare of good and evil throughout the world. These two characters were Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll is a very successful man who lived in a wealthy estate, was very polite, extremely welcoming to other human beings, and lived to a very old age for his time period. Unlike Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde was represented by evil. He was a man that nobody liked because of his rejecting attitude and his outlook on life, and did not care about the world around him.

In the story, it was revealed that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were both the same person, except Dr. Jekyll was good and Mr. Hyde was evil. Dr. Jekyll had created a potion so that he could have control over his evil side to keep himself from fully becoming Mr. Hyde. The physical appearance of Mr. Hyde was best compared to a nightmare, while Dr. Jekyll was a very proper, well mannered man.
