A Raisin in the Sun

Introduction

"A Raisin In The Sun" is a play written by an African-American playwright - Lorraine Hansberry. It was first produced in 1959. Lorraine Hansberry work is about a black family in South Side Chicago after the Second World War (Kamp, 1987).

Analysis

The family consisted of Mama (Lena Younger), Walter Lee (his son), Ruth (his wife), and Travis (his son) and Beneath a (sister Walters younger). The young family lived in poor conditions, and can't afford have a better life. However, Lena is waiting to receive a check for $ 10,000 in insurance money late husband. Two main characters in the play, Mom and Walter, want this money to be used for the benefit of the whole family. Although both want to benefit the family, each has a different idea of what to do with Money and how to manage for the benefit of all.

Walter Lee, as his father wants his family to have a better life and not to invest the money in a liquor store. Walter want is the moneys that may prove capable of making a future for his family.

In so doing business in Walter thinks he can buy his family happiness. Walter has dreams. Dreams that probably received from his father.

Besides the dreams husband Walter also has a responsibility which are universally regarded as being able to support his family and children raise his so morally agree with what he believes in Walter's problem, however, it seems that is building its supposedly well thought plan to invest in a liquor store with something that is infatuated. By this infatuation, no responsibility can achieve his (Kamp, 1987). In addition to the responsibilities of Walter also prides his manly. Throughout the history of Walter Lee that might shows a kind of pride to be considered the "man" pride. Has to be the head of the family and thrives on the acceptance of him as that role. When his manlihood called into question is greatly angered. He expects demand and Trieste for the rest of the family to listen to him and follow his life guide through.

He shows his anger towards the non-acceptance of their "manly" pride at the point of the story, when his mother will not give money towards his business interests. Mom denied the money because she has a deeping rained pride in it. Most of his pride is the pride of she received inherited from her late husband, Big Walter. She has the values of the old of putting his family first, respecting your mother and father, and respecting the Lord.

Walter Lee never wanted anything simple in life than $ 10,000. It tries to reason with her mother to give him and tries to convince it would be profitable for the family.
