Introduction

King Kong is a make believe character, a huge-terrifying monster, similar to a gorilla. He has been appearing in a few movies since the early 90s. This character has become one of the world's most popular movie icons, appearing in a number of movies ever since its ground breaking movie in 1933. The popularity of the character was so immense that it transcended the movie medium and appeared on parodies, cartoon series, comic, books and various products, video games, park rides; even stage plays (Cotta pp, 193 & 194).

The character's original name is Kong in the first movie, the name that the people of Skull Island call him. According to the original concept, An American film crew captures him and takes him to New York City to be shown as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". Kong manages to escape and climbs the Empire State building where aircrafts shoot him down.

King Kong 1933

The original movie of the 1933 shows the film director convincing the actress to star in his movie, who agrees. The actress falls in love with the first mate Jack Driscoll, while the natives kidnap her when they reach the island. They take her to be presented as a sacrifice to the Kong, a huge ape like creature living on the island, who takes the actress to his jungle lair.

The crew sets out to rescue the actress, but a threatened by dinosaurs and strange creatures on the way which result in the death of several crew members. The director finds the actress and snatches her from the Kong, who pursues them as they race to safety. On the way, to catch the actress, Kong destroys the native village, but a hand tossed gas bomb finally subdues him (Turner, Pg.37).

They take Kong to New York, where they exhibit him as the 8th wonder of the world, but escapes and climbs the Empire State Building, where by military jets shoot him, making him fall to his death.
