Competency models are being used by businesses since several decades for developing their employees and for workforce planning. Moreover, it also identifies the competencies that are required to perform efficiently. The model helps in defining what the people in this profession need to know and ways in which they can be successful. As an occupational safety and health professional, I have developed a competency model which can be used to identify the characteristics of the performers who are superior (Hawkins & McEntyr, 2000).
