Reducing the Environmental Impact of Concrete

Summary

The paper has been written by Kumar Mehta; for the purpose of reducing the environmental impact of concrete and how concrete can be durable and environmentally friendly. The purpose of the paper is to identify and put light on such thing which is nearly used in all construction projects. The research has shown that the Carbon dioxide emission exponential growth has been estimated to increase in the 21st century and that the increment in the population as reported is around 6 to 9 billion. By controlling the manufactured material we use, the impact on the environment can be reduced and the wasteful material can be utilized and reused.

Cement production in the emissions of CO2, SO2 and a small amount of harmful gases, and emissions of dust is an important cause of environmental degradation, the concrete the production profits applications process emissions, waste water and waste, over time, to the ecological environment brought harsh impact. With the rapid development of various constructions, import each year a large number of waste concrete construction waste, over time, they will be large, large area deposition, resulting in potential contamination of gray. They cannot integrate into the soil improvement and utilization cannot be effective, and cannot be planted in the above. Despite these concrete garbage is considered to be non-toxic harmless, but a lot of accumulation, there is the same effect on our natural living environment (Lauritzen, 1998).

The normal operation of the concrete structure is safe and reliable, to reach a predetermined useful life, must take into account whether the structure has sufficient strength and strength reserve, to ensure that there are sufficient carrying capacity. The same time, no matter what kind of structure in the service process, performance is constantly decaying after a certain time, repair and maintenance, performance recovery, ...
