Introduction

A concussion is a disturbance of the brain, following a shock. This results in a malfunction of brain cells and transient disturbances of brain function. It is possible that certain brain cells are destroyed by the impact, which does not necessarily mean that the consequences will be irreversible. A concussion follows a blow to the head, a fall or other trauma when the head is suddenly accelerated or braked. The concussion is also called mild traumatic brain injury.
