Introduction:

DRS Technology, Inc. (DRS) is a defense contractor based in United States. It is a leading supplier of integrated products, services and support to military forces, intelligence agencies and prime contractors the world over. The company was established in 1968, by two engineers namely Leonard Newman and David Gross, who used to work for Loran Corporation. Both the engineers were on an assignment to work for signal processing techniques for the anti-submarine warfare and were interested in the work to the core. The idea of DRS Technology, Inc. (DRS) emerged when Loran decided to employ some other technique for the matter and Leonard and David decided to establish an organization of their own. The basic purpose of founding this organization was to continue their research, and the decision did pay off. They both succeeded in developing AN/SQR-17 passive submarine detection system, which is used to date.

DRS Technology, Inc. (DRS) was publically started in 1981 and had got its first contract in 1984—with three years of going public. The company fast gained pace and after a decade, in 1994 it aimed at becoming the mid-tier defense contractor, defined by $500M in sales. The goal was not only achieved, but all the further goals were successfully achieved by the company, thus leading to its development and quick advancement (DRS Technologies, 2012).

The company continued to grow, and in 2008, it was taken over by an Italian conglomerate Finmeccanica S.p.A.

The potential conflicts at the workplace can be of a number of types, including internal and external issues. Whatever the nature of the issue might be, communication is always the first step towards finding the solution. The reason behind placing communication first includes:

1.It assists in getting an exact insight of the situation and get to the core of the issue; if the communication step is missed, the authorities and the concerted individuals might just keep on beating about the bush with no idea of the actual situation what so ever.

2.Once a detailed account of the issue is available, it has to be resolved, and some way out has to be looked for, and the process cannot go on without communicating.

3.After finding a potential solution, the findings must be communicated to both sides in order to make the point clear and assists in solving the matter before situation get serious and the employers resort to seek legal help (Alexander, 2011).

After getting hold of the situation and finding ways to get done with it, one has to consider which type of negotiation must be adopted.
