Executive Summary

The paper discuss about the Correctional Officer Misconduct and ethical consideration. It is a fact that when corrections officers accept their post they are basically accepting the responsibilities for protecting the inmates, regardless of their choices for particular prisoners, it is their duty to treat each single prisoners equally and fairly. Moreover, certain prison develops the personal hatred for certain inmates and they bully the person, often leads for severe beating the helpless prisoners. This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of the phenomenon through the review of conceptual and ethical discussion generated around corruption officer and intervention strategies that according to the experience seems more effective international. The prospect of criminal prosecution or commitment disciplinary proceedings against an officer whose misconduct is established as an important means of protection against impunity, it is also critical to public confidence in the system complaints against the police.

Introduction

It is a fact that from the past decades it is noted that the number of misconduct by the correctional officers have increased. Of the three branches of the criminal justice system; police, courts, and corrections the correctional system may have what seems like the least important discretionary value as well as ethical decisions that are encountered. Major problem that is being identified is that the sexual misconduct that is committed by the male correctional officers on the female prisoners. The correctional officers are more over caught red handedly in a tug of war between the ethical and subculture issues which are actually determined through the daily behaviour of the officers. Thus, the subculture can lead towards questionable practices by the officers (Nancy, 1999).

This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of the phenomenon through the review of conceptual and ethical discussion generated around corruption officer and intervention strategies that according to the experience seems more effective international.

Discussion and Analysis

In most recent reports the Department of Justice (DOJ) released a report in September 2011, it was determined that there is a vast increase in the misconduct among the correctional officers. There are various factors that are linked with the misconduct that the human resource administrators and the training personnel that are highlighted the most (Kenneth, 2003). DOC issued the report which revealed that the trend has been observed by the empirical evidence and the observations on the job when such issues came to light due to disciplinary action taken or the critical incident review process indicated issues with mistreatment, poor judgment making and unreliable reporting techniques that brought suspicion on the writer's accuracy to report and document these events as they actually occurred. Other than lacking the proper training, it became clear that character flaws contributed to the overall performance of the employee that resulted in discipline or arrests.
