Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to enlighten and discuss the concepts of marriage and family counseling in holistic manner. This paper also focuses on the methods, procedures and tactics involved in marriage and family counseling to cure the family and marital issues of individuals. In addition, this paper analyzes three scenarios and strives to provide effective consulting advice through which the issues can be resolved. Marriage and family counseling is a way of solving problems in the family or couple with the help of a therapist. The couples facing family and marital issues are not limited to a particular relation; these couples can be husband and wife, parent and child, mother-in-law and son-in etc.

The treatment through marriage and family counseling involves consulting sessions of therapies. There are at least 3 people involved in this session: therapist (one or two) and couple facing family and marital problems (two or more). Marriage and family counseling is responsible for solving the issues between the family members that can severely affect the harmony inside family. This therapy cures couples who want to save their marriages, improve family relationships, solve sexual problems, betrayal issues and the issues that may lead to divorce. In this connection, this study will present a strategy of how would a family suffering from familial tensions can improve their relationship through counseling. The written position of the clients are already mentioned in the case, however to obtain further information, the study will suggest the methods to acquire the required data, so that proper counseling strategy can be formulated.

Method for Collection Further Data

The information regarding Brodies' case seems adequate to explain the situation they are going through, but the provided information is not enough to conduct a session for counseling therapy. First of all, I would require more information on their relationship, as the case says Carolyn loves her mother and William too, and her mother do not consider William as a perfect match for her daughter. This means that may be William and Carolyn, might have exchange harsh words in the past regarding their mom, or may be their mother might be a reason to effect their relationship in the past. Thus, a counselor would require information if Carolyn's mother in past would have affect her relationship in the past. Secondly, a counselor would also require information regarding any event of past where they fought with each other. The reliable information can be obtained if counselor would ask Carolyn and William separately. This will also help in understanding their difference of opinion as well as the status of their present relationship.
