Introduction

Almost everyone today want to have relationship that is peaceful and stress free people look for life partners with whom they can create better understanding. They wish to have a family to get along well with each other (Thio & Taylor, 2011). Families that we have are comprised of people and as we already know these people are often very complicated as they have different characteristics and different nature, they have distinct behavior which makes it complicated to develop understanding among individuals. This makes it difficult to carry out effective communication between individuals (Goldenberg, 2012). People assign different reasons for having family problems and issues for instance this may state money, work and stress as being the major factors for family problems; however the main reason for not developing healthy relationships between family members is the failure to communicate. This occurs as people fail to take out time to talk to each other and they do not spend enough quality time together that will enable them to understand each other (Krantzler, 2011).

In order to have effective communication couples need to develop understanding between them often the causes for divorce or couples being separated is due to not having effective communication, and hence couples will then have to go for marriage counseling which would enable them to develop effective communication between the two. Couples desire to live “happy ever after” when they get married they hope to have a life which will be free of stress and problems, yet they fail to have a perfect family which is due to lack of effective communication. However there is the possibility of having peaceful and happy life after marriage, it may require devotion of efforts and simultaneously a lot of work to ensure that they are able to develop effective and healthy relationship. Reason for many of the problems that may arise between individuals may be due to inefficient communication between the couples and rest of the family members or they might not communicate at all (Krantzler, 2011). Most of the married couples may have argument over finances and bad habits or may be how the children should be brought up. Work of people has become stressful which has made their lives hectic, thus it has resulted in most of the couples splitting frequently at even very minor issues. The marriage rate has increased rapidly over time due to which the need for marriage and family counseling has also increased (Fernandes, 2011).

Marriage can be defined as a long-term relationship which is the most difficult one for couples to form, therefore during their married life they can be benefited by the marriage counselors along their relationship. These professionals are contacted by the couples after occurrence of serious problems; however they prove to be of great help even from the very beginning of marriage (Krantzler, 2011).
