Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to make an analysis on a couple's case and discuss that what different authors suggest in such a situation. The author's to be discussed in this paper is Hendrix, Lackhar and Beck. The paper makes an analysis that how would these authors individually understand this couple and their situation and what interventions they might suggest.

Case Analysis

The case is about a couple, who got married before six years, Frank and Sherry, Frank is a Pharmaceutical representative, where as Sherry is a consultant in a large CPA firm. Frank had faced dominance in his family because of his parent's divorce, and is very much attached to his sister. On the other hand, Sherry had always felt her physically and emotionally alone because of the strict nature of her family.

The couple is suffering from hardships in their lives. The main problem is that Sherry complains that Frank does not give her proper timing and attention. On the other hand Frank thinks, that Sherry is very much attention seeker and he has to maintain a relationship between his family and Sherry. Because of such clashes in their relationship, Frank had involved in a relationship with his co-worker and caught by Sherry. After this incident they decided to go for the consultancy about their relationship.

1) How would Hendrix understand this couple and their situation and what intervention he might suggest?

Imago Relationship Therapy was originally developed by Harville Hendrix, PhD. Hendrix collaborated with his wife, Helen Hunt LaKelley, PhD, during the decade of 1980 to develop a form of relationship therapy which is based on the idea of ??a subconscious image. Both founders believed that men and women seek partners that are similar, unconsciously, to a vacuum that was left behind by parents (Hendrix, 2006).

While seemingly complex, the idea behind Imago therapeutic relationship is very simple. According to Hendrix, all human beings learn to love your way, from birth (Hendrix, 1994). The feelings of love and attention from the environment are observed from the time a child is born. Soon after, the children learn to develop survival patterns, which are, in essence, the patterns of behavior that are collected as they grow.

Imago relationship therapy is based on the assumption that a child can love freely and openly as a baby, but the same child quickly learns that love and acceptance is not given unless it is done in a way that pleases their parents (Hendrix, 2010). Therefore, it is assumed that all people are inherently lacks genuine love that slice that was cut off once and survival patterns have been learned. This theory states that you will attract only those who have some of these very characteristics (Hendrix, 2007). This means that this person has a unique opportunity to recreate the emotional environment of your childhood; only this time you'll see these problems as an adult, with the power to achieve healing and growth.
