Introduction

Criminology is a multidisciplinary science which bases its foundations in knowledge within the sociology, psychology and social anthropology, taking to this conceptual framework that defines the criminal law. Criminology examines the causes of crime and recommends remedies antisocial behavior of man. Criminological research areas include the incidence and forms of crime and its causes and consequences (Chapman 2001). They also collect social reactions and government regulations on the crime.

Polygamy

In a strict sense, polygamy means plurality of spouses. More specifically, when a man has more than one wife at a time, it is called polygyny (Campbell 2005). But accounts gotten the average reader does not distinguish between the two terms, the use uniquely. When we speak of polygamy in this context really means polygamy in the proper sense of the word. On the other hand, if a woman has more than one husband, it is called polyandry. If a mixture of men and women, marriage is a community or group.

These three basic types of plural marriage has been practiced more or less, for different societies, different ages, in different circumstances. The most common pattern is polygamy, while still necessarily limited to a very small minority of any population for several reasons. This is the only pattern allowed by Islam (Campbell 2005).

Is Polygamy Illegal

The legal status of polygamy varies from country to country. Practice is generally illegal in almost all Western countries, but openly and frequently practiced, sometimes even encouraged, in most predominantly Muslim and African countries. Polygamy (1 man with multiple wives) is probably the most common variety of polygamy. Polyandry (one wife with multiple husbands) is much rarer. Group marriage (some husbands and several wives) turns out to be smaller.

More than a century ago, citizens of a self-governing territory that is modern Utah were forced by the federal government of the United States to abandon the practice of polygamy through the strict observance of certain acts of Congress (Chapman 2001). They eventually complied. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially abolished the practice in 1890, the documents marked as "Manifesto." Among American Muslims, the minority, about 50 thousand to 100 thousand people currently in illegal polygamous relationships.
