Curriculum Development

Introduction

Auto mechanics do the alignment of car wheels, so the car can be pointed out towards a straight path. Same is the case with curriculum alignment which usually follows the same principal of the wheels. So the wheels can be in the form of curriculum instruction, standards, and assessment (District Administration 2004). Many Researches have shown that curriculum alignment can result in improved overall standards of education at city and at country level both. These changes in the curriculum cannot be done in a day or so, since it requires a thorough investigation of the Curriculum System as well as its testing. So when a proper curriculum system is implemented together with regular checks, than it results in high quality education. This high quality education is beneficial for the progress of individuals, society and state. The other benefits which the curriculum development carries is that it promotes better communication and collaboration amongst teachers.

The curriculum standard which the Malaysian education system had been following was KBSR but from 2011 onwards onward it has implemented KSSR (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah). The KSSR is designed on 6 basic areas in contrast to its former system which had only 3 areas. The schooling time per week in KSSR will be 120 minutes short in contrast to the previous system, so in this time period the schools will be accommodating interactive and fun teaching objective.

The learning standard is the criteria which denote the boundaries of quality education.

Difference between past and new curriculum

The difference between new and the old curriculum is that in KSSR the design is based on 6 areas. Communication, spirituality, humanitarian, physical development and science and technology .Where as in the KSBR the design contained 3 areas only which were communication, environment and the personal development. Thus we can clearly see that emphasis is increased on the development of society in the form of humanitarian areas, physical development and the most importantly the science n technology. The Curriculum material has been shifted from the syllabus to the standard documents. So it will promote a general standard in the curriculum material. In the new system the design of the curriculum is modular which means that ...
