Introduction

Tesco is a multinational chain of stores retail with its headquarters in the United Kingdom . In 2008, Tesco became the fourth largest retailer in the world, moving to fifth place at the distributor Metro AG , the first movement of positions among the top five companies in the sector since 2003 . Originally specializing in food and drink, it has diversified into areas such as clothing, electronics, financial services, selling and renting DVDs , compact discs, digital downloads , Internet services , telecommunications , medical and dental insurance and software.

Tesco is present in Europe with 825 stores across six countries (117 in Ireland , 313 in Poland , 164 in Hungary , 74 in Slovakia , 127 in the Czech Republic and 30 in Turkey ) and Asia with 1,136 stores (137 in Japan , 614 in Thailand , 280 in South Korea , 30 in Malaysia , four in Taiwan and 71 in mainland China ).

Tesco was also present in France, via a store in Calais , specializing in the sale of alcohol to British. This is explained by smaller taxes on alcohol in France and Britain. The turnover in 2006 was 2 million pounds . Despite this, the store closed on 30 August 2010.

Discussion

UML Case

As TESCO is the biggest largest retail chain outlet so it is necessary for them to manage the time effectively and to make sure that all the products are arranged in rows in timely manner. As the biggest retail store they have to mange the customers with in the store. Moreover, TESCO must cater there customers in the manner to provide them better services to satisfy them.

In this assignment UML case diagrams have been created in order to recommend that to manage things timely.

The Retail Store Management System is a system designed for managing i.e. For ordering, arranging and selling goods.

The Retailer checks for the availability of goods in the store. If the stock of goods is less then retailer places order for goods. While ordering the goods, goods area received at store, the retailer then arrange them by product or by price,then retailer makes payment. If the stock of goods is available then he will arrange goods for selling.

The retailer then sales the goods directly to the customer. The customer buys the items from retailer. The retailer preapares bill for goods purchased by the customer, he receives amount bycredit or by cash from customer. The supplier supplies the goods to the store in the system. The overall sysytem is used to manage the goods in the store (McLaughlin, 2006, 116-135).

Management of Goods

The retailer keeps a track of the stocked goods and makes sure there is surplus inventory to avoid being “out of stock”. Such a process is called as inventory management.
