The Death Penalty in the United States and Nationwide

Does the death penalty serve as a deterrent to crime? If so, why are crime rates in the United States comparatively high? What are some other countries' responses to the death penalty?

The death penalty has been debated for many decades. Many favored the death penalty, but many others are now more than ever, taking the position that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment. Capital punishment, like any other punishment for crimes committed, it is meant to be a deterrent. Is it time to abolish the death penalty - or make it more effective, less dire and more specific? I can not answer this question with some words, and I will not even try to attempt, but I provide some facts and my own views on the death penalty.

In the United States, authorized methods of execution vary from state, but also a lethal injection, electric, hanging, firing squad and lethal gas. While the ultimate and final punishment exists, they have never been shown to deter crime effectively, and more effectively than other punishments. This shows that the death penalty does not work, and its aim is not valid and can be quite cruel and inhuman punishment. In the 1993 survey, 44% of Americans preferred life without parole, including restitution, rather than the death penalty. Less Americans, only 41% preferred the death penalty, and 15% have not decided. Given the alternative, the death penalty, more Americans will choose the alternative (Kingsolver 2002).

In the early eighteenth century there were many of those responsible for reform of the way of punishment for the crime, the punishment was. United States has made significant progress in protecting and promoting human dignity of every citizen, because in the age of Enlightenment, but perhaps we all still needed in the future yet (Schaefer 2000). Pro-death penalty supporters would deny it is a form of revenge, but that this is a guarantee that a criminal will never commit heinous crimes convicted again. There must be better and more effective ways to prevent a person committing the same crime capital doubled.
