Introduction

Deming is the most well-known person in the field of quality control. He has the greatest influence on the rebirth of postwar Japan and the U.S. in the 80's. There are myriad reasons why Dr. Deming is called the first "teacher of quality".

An Avenue to Fame After receiving his doctorate in physics, William Edward Deming was in the public service for many years in the Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Census Bureau, focusing on methods of statistical sampling. After 16 years of public service, in 1943, working in the Bureau, he published a book on statistical data processing (Douglas, 2001, 158). However, the secret of climbing Deming to fame lies in the United States and Japan. Today, Deming for his contribution to Japanese quality is considered a national hero in Japan. In 1960, the emperor awarded him the Order of the Sacred Treasure of the second degree - the most honorable for foreigners of Japanese Imperial award.

Deming pushed Japan to the introduction of modern methods of investigation of the consumer market. Deming placed enormous responsibility on management and stressed its importance at both the individual and community level and at company level.

Fourteen Principles of Deming

Deming himself considers its 14 key principles, precepts as the basis for the transformation of American industry. They were a basis of lessons for senior Japanese management in 1950. Following 14 principles of Deming categorically explicates the methods through which organizations can achieve success. They are sufficient for solving problems - large and small (Feigenbaum, 1991, 45). Adoption of these 14 principles and an action in accordance with them indicate that management intends to stay in business, and its purpose - to protect investors and jobs. Such a system formed the basis of lessons for the Japanese top management in 1950 and subsequent years. These 14 principles are applicable everywhere, in small organizations as well as in large, in the service sector as well as in manufacturing. They can be used in different parts of the company. Following are the fourteen principles he laid down:
