Introduction

Today, lighting is as important as many other tools involved in selling the product. It is not just to make things visible but there are several features of lights that a designer can use in order to not only make things clear to its customers but also to use in many ways in order to gain several advantages from it. Lighting is now a separate subject that needs to be studied in order to make designers aware of its advantages and disadvantages. The following report is divided into two parts; one will give in detail description of using lighting, its benefits and discrimination between good and bad lighting so that it can enable the designers to make the best use of lighting in their business. The second part of the report is regarding developing the understanding of the theories and principles of lighting, the role of the lighting designers and what is the relationship between lights and colors. In order to explain the practical use of lighting several examples will be included in order to develop an idea has to how the lighting is used by retail stores, markets and shopping malls. A practical example of a boutique will also be mentioned to analyze the lighting effects used by the boutique owners.

Discussion

In order to design something is to make it useful for its customers and lighting design is application lighting. Lighting design is a similar profession to engineers, architectures who use number factors like human factors, combination of standards and conventions, cultural factors and scientific principles in an artful manner. A retail store that has just about everything for the users who want to buy clothes, light acts an extra element that enhances the appearance of the outlet.The boutiques can use illuminating style of lighting in order to properly display and highlight the main features of its stores. It has been observed that boutiques use spot lights for the clothes that are new arrivals so that customers can easily differentiate between the new and old trends coming in the markets. Practically lightening can numerous ways of getting advantages like it enables lightening of the merchandise enables to display its features, lightening enable to portray the theme of the store, lightening reinforces the architecture of the store and usage of highly specialized lights produce spectacular lighting effects (Zaromb, 1962). For example lighting in a small boutique needs to appeal the customers, many boutiques use coloured glass or other distinctive lights in order to develop their identity. On the other hand is the lightening of supermarkets that have enhanced in previous times. The lighting in these stores has to perform the task of properly visualizing each item displayed on the shelves and each offer clearly readable by the customers.
