Diabetes mellitus is an assembly of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia producing from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The chronic hyperglycemia of diabetes is affiliated with long-term damage, dysfunction, and failure of diverse organs, particularly the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and blood vessels.
