Introduction

The research suggests that diabetes mellitus is the result of defects in insulin secretion in the body. It is basically a metabolic disorder which is the result of issues with metabolism of fat, proteins, carbohydrate and also characterized by hyperglycemia. It has been increasing in many countries at an alarming rate and shows negative effects on the economies of these countries boy affecting their workforce productivity and well being (WHO, 1999). Though only 6 percent of American population has diabetes but it has been reported to increase to 20 million Americans by the year 2025. It poses some great challenges for people in terms of health, productivity, performance and risk of developing depression (National Academy on an Aging Society, 2000)..

Discussion

As a result of this WHO has communicated guidelines for the diagnosis of diabetes and deal with its symptoms? It was first printed I 1965 and then reviewed and printed again for the classification and diagnosis and definition of the disease. They proposed that HbA1c can be used for diagnostic tests of diabetes provided that its quantity and cut off point remains as (6.1 mmol/l; 110 mg/dl). This recommendation was based on the basis of two important things. Firstly on the low/high/moderate quality of evidence in relation to the population level in low resource settings having low income background and secondly on the basis of high/moderate quality of evidence applicable to the population level with low resource settings and background. The first evidence belonged to the weak and conditional category while the second one belonged to the strong category of evidence in the research.

Following recommendations were made on the basis of evidence found. Firstly it was suggested and recommended that HbA1c can be used for the diagnostic test of diabetes provides that the quality being used ...
