Distance Learning Proposal

Introduction

For over a century, distance learning in higher education continues to evolve, both in practice and a meaning of a term. Like many academic works that are still in a state of development, with discussions not only in a sense, but also a distance of words and their own learning. Although no one has a power to settle this point, consider some well-documented sense yield concepts.

Related Terms and Concepts

Although a term distance learning is widely used, a rapid development of communications technology in a late 1990s and early 2000s created many variations on this theme. To understand a distance learning, it is useful to consider other closely related terms and concepts.

Correspondence study

a original form of distance learning, correspondence courses involve exchange of words written on paper, between teacher and student. Improvements in transportation technology (ie, rail, truck, plane) helped a Postal Service by this method, a more viable school.

Distributed education. As electronic technology has given more help to overcome a constraints of time, rather than just a distance, some felt that an emphasis in a distance is not required. In studying distributed, education is available (or "shared") anywhere, anytime. Often a combination of technologies is proposed, including face-to-face.

Hybrid Classes

a courses use a mixture of distance learning methods and face-to-face. For example, a group of pupils in a class of biology can meet face to face for their laboratory work, but a rest of a instruction will be offered via television or computer.

Open learning. It is a term for distance education that are commonly used in British Commonwealth countries. a term is from an Open University, United Kingdom. To help those not privileged to attend selective universities of Britain's Open University began offering courses in a 1960s by a combination of written materials, television programming, and local tutors.

Online Learning

Distance learning where most instruction is provided by a computer and an Internet are called online learning.

E-learning

Icreasingly popular in a early 2000s, a term e-learning refers to any electronically assisted instruction, but it is more often associated with education offered by a computer and a Internet.

Purpose of Distance Education

Education are many: There are colleges and universities around a world, and there are specialist colleges that teach a trades of any kind. Why then is required distance?

The primary goal of distance learning is to overcome a barriers of time and place. Students can live in some rural areas and lack of access to education. Other learners may have ready access to a college but a college does not offer a curriculum necessary for this student. Distance learning allows education to reach those who are not physically able to attend classes on campus. In addition, as learners attempt to balance family, work and education, time becomes a precious commodity. Behavior on campus, parking, and spend time in class to a named (and probably impractical) time may not fit into a overall schedule of students.
