Documentary Photography

Introduction

Joseph-Nicephore (1765-1833) was the first to get a picture set. This happened in 1826/27 when he managed to establish a permanent image of the courtyard of his house. To make this photograph used a pewter plate coated with bitumen of Judea, exposing the plate to light with the image invisible varnish parties affected by light became insoluble or soluble, depending on the light received.

During the early 19th century, the areas of documentary photography and new techniques devised by imaging scientists and the ability of the lens was limited, but today the potential of high-tech world had broke all the opinions and succeeded photography to develop the doctrines of fine new, undeniably one of the fine documentaries.

Documentary photography is called one of the genres of photography facing the real events. The objectives of documentary photography may include the creation of photographic paper, which is evidence of real events, document the era, as well as treatment or prevention. These photographs, in turn, are not objective but rather subjective, often ideological, or socio-critical evidence of the described phenomena (Allen,2007,pp. 91-92).

The term "document" is derived from the Latin documentum = precept, example, sample cautionary example of edification. The concept of "documentary photography" originated in the U.S. in the 30 years during the Great Depression.

Discussion

In addition to supporting a wide variety of interpretations, the concept of documentary photography is very broad. While all photography is also ultimately documentary, artistic and even those that are manipulated, since they are always referring to something or someone-the term refers to a particular genre with its own rules of realization. Strictly speaking, it is considered documentary photography that constitutes evidence in relation to the content of evidence. François Aragor, to make the presentation of Daguerre's invention, in August 1839, explained that the new technique could reproduce such hieroglyphs and monuments of ancient Egypt, only to be studied. The sense documentary photography was very clearly expressed and enriched over time (Coe ,2006,pp. 37-67 ).

Background of Documentary Photography

In the 19th century it was widely believed that the photographic documentary in nature. "British Journal of Photography" for example calling for archiving photos, which will serve as documentation for future generations. During that period, there are first attempts to create a photo series in the genre of documentary photography:

In 1870, Jacob Riis begins work on a series of photographs of the poor in New York.

Lewis W. Hine in 1905 photographing child labor in the U.S., after which the law prohibits its use.

Documentary Photography since 1945

The end of World War II marked a difficult period in documentary photography. All significant documentary photographers postwar Arbyus Diana , Robert Frank , Eugene Smith , Mary Ellen Mark , William Klein were either singly or were forced to moonlight as a supplier to big stories of magazines such as Life . In pursuit of publishers for all books in large print runs, changing the format and informational magazines are finding less and less space for documentary photography and the authors of the politically independent position.
