Introduction

The Drama I Never Saw another Butterfly is a very inspiring play for the people of all ages written by Celeste Raspanti. Some readers may portray it as a play of despair and horror. After reading it is found very interesting that even after being in horrifying situation there is happiness and hope seen in it. It is a collection of poetry and work of art by Jewish children who survived in war in lived in a concentration camp. After liberation of Terezin at the war end about hundred children were left alive. They were forced to live in some horror concentration camp till the settlement between governments takes place. In this play those children are trying to find some happy moments while living in such a pain. This play is about the humor and vibrancy of children.

I Never Saw Another Butterfly shows us the amazing ability of the human spirit to continue, to find strength and comfort in the worst situations. Even as their numbers dwindle, as friends and family disappear daily on trains headed for Auschwitz, the children of Terezin write of hope and raise their voices in song (Stearns, 10).

Discussion

The drama revolves around a child whose name is Raja. He tries to help other children by giving them hope knowing there is nothing to be happy about. He helps them by teaching them to create little laughter in small things. Behind the barbed wire was a place full of flowers and butterflies. Children used to go there and have some moments of happiness with them. If we see the in-depth of this play no butterflies existed there.
