Introduction

Protectionism is an economic policy of interventionist conducted by a State or group of States, for protecting its producers against the competition from producers in other states. Goals can be the maintenance of employment in some industries, reducing the trade deficit, or the defense of living standards. Protectionist measures are essentially to curb imports by imposing tariff barriers, standards binding brakes in administration and encouraging exports with aim to grants various tax incentives, depreciation, dumping as "protectionism offensive" (ROBERTS, 1994, p. 206).
